Ok, this is SERIOUSLY a slam-dunk gift. Unique, whimsical lyrics from a great musician. It’s an entire CD full of kids yoga music that is designed to introduce young kids to yoga. But even for those athletically-challenged folks, the songs are great for kids to learn during a long car drive because they are fun and original! For those yoga-inspired folks, the CD includes a booklet that shows you the poses, so it’s very easy. And kids love it! My favorite song is SURFER MAMA!

My absolute favorite songs are Midnight Moonlight (love the sound of the chorus with you providing your own harmonies), Black Dog in the River (Nick Drake meets kids’ music… who would have thought!), and Caterpillar Caterpillar… but that’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy each and every song. I really love the mix of doowop, jazz, etc…. killer sax, upright bass, and lots of other little surprises! Kira’s voice has that soft, breathy quality that I love (so Suzanne Vega, especially on Caterpillar Caterpillar)… and I love the atmosphere of the songs (particularly that they aren’t all just generically happy/silly)… there’s real depth in there, including lyrically… but on a level that is accessible to kids, and exposes them to more sophisticated musical styles. Bravo!

My children were captivated for the full session of Fireflies Yoga and eagerly ran out the door this morning for their next class. I’ve always felt that children know when they are welcome and belong in a place… and that’s why I think Fireflies Yoga is so successful with children. They know it’s for them. It’s not a grown-up yoga class slightly modified for their ability level—it’s a full-blown children’s experience with music and movement and laughter!

The CD is incredibly innovative, and a must-have! My girls and I started singing along after only hearing the songs one time.  Surfer Mama is the most feel-good song we’ve ever heard. This is a great way to get your kids to move their bodies for health. I’ve told all of my friends. We love it.

Our 4-year-old May has been listening to it obsessively AND doing the yoga! She adores the sun salutations song in particular. I only wish we had a class like that locally for May, but please let Kira know that her Maine fan club has been launched.

What a great CD! I’m a yogini and my daughter has been interested in yoga as long as she has been watching me practice. The CD has great music, Kira has a beautiful voice and I loved the bonus tracks where she actually guides you through the poses. It was so much fun to do yoga together.

Dear Kira, I cannot even begin to tell you what you mean to me. My 4 year old son Colin has severe autism.  Something in him opened when he heard the DELL commercial. I went online and found you. He is singing now, he loves that song so much. Colors is so beautiful, so special.  It has been a while since I have seen my son this happy, and this into something, he loves it soooo much. I Love This CD! Kira has a beautiful voice and the lyrics are so well written.  This CD is a great mix of fun, gentle, playful, restful, inspiring, and spunky.  LOVE the Surfer Mama song!  I also really appreciate the second set of songs that include her instruction.

Like so many, I first heard your music via the Dell commercial. When I googled to find out about the song, I was delighted not only to find your cd, but to realize that you had written the songs for children’s yoga. I was looking for a Christmas gift for the 6 year old son of a friend.  His name is Andrew and he was born virtually blind.  I just wanted you to know how wonderful this CD is for him.  He absolutely loves it.  If it wasn’t for the fact that you explain what moves and positions to take, it would be just another sweet children’s cd. But he is learning the positions at the same time and in the same way as his brother Timmy and his parents. I think this must be incredibly empowering for him!

Here’s a story about your song that I thought you’d like to hear. My brother who is 56 years old was visiting me last night for our family Christmas gathering. The Dell commercial came on the TV and he said, “Listen! Who is that singing? Every time I hear that commercial I just feel, ahhhh, peaceful!” It was so unlike my brother to say such a thing, who is an interstate surveyor and builds cars and airplanes as a hobby. His wife of 35 years just received the news that she is to begin kidney dialysis (due to Type 1 diabetes) January 1st, and she is on the transplant list. This morning my daughter and I searched online to find out more about your song and she downloaded, from itunes, your whole album for him. We surprised him at breakfast this morning by playing “Colors” as he sat down to eat! Your song was a blessing to us all.

I am a franciscan monk who works mostly with young people in Dublin, Ireland and I just thought I’d drop you a line to let you know that your song, Colours, has really impressed me. For the past five years I have been working with the Sanctuary Centre in Dublin’s inner city to create a program for young people (mostly those in their teens) which allows then to integrate their experiences and begin the path to meditative awareness. Yoga has proved a powerful tool along the way; we also do a lot of work with colour and art and one of the things we have found is that while they are often slow to share how they are feeling or past experiences the will share what “colours they are today” very readily! A simple question like “what colour are you today?” can often open up a whole conversation with a young person who just doesn’t know how to express themselves. Your song allows them not only to connect to how they are feeling but to an appreciation of nature as well. Just thought you’d like to know that the song is having an effect all the way accross the Atlantic!

I’m an 18 year old soon to be college student with no children. I heard your song “Colors” on a Dell commercial on TV, and it instantly got stuck in my head. Thinking the artist was probably one of those indie-Starbucks approved artists, I googled the lyrics and found your name. I was kind of surprised to see that you were a children’s musician. But, I don’t like to let genres limit my musical options, so I downloaded “Colors” and listened to it on repeat for about an hour before my friend told me if I was going to put something on repeat, I had to AT LEAST have 3 songs on a cycle so it didn’t drive him nuts. I checked out your other songs on iTunes, and fell even more in love with your music. It is just so happy and pretty. “Colors” is still my favorite, but “Dance for the Sun,” “The Sound I Found,” and “Namaste Song” are pretty close up there! When I tell them it is for “kids yoga” they barely ever believe me. Colors, from the Dell commerical, is the natural favourite. but I also like the one with the Apple Pie!
